Delegates to the 8th Convention of the Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, elected The Rev. Robert Bugbee as President to succeed the retiring Dr. Ralph E. Mayan, who had served 12 years. He received the majority of votes on the first ballot before lunch on the convention's first full business day, Friday, June 6.
Pastor Bugbee has served Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kitchener as senior pastor since 1994. Prior to coming here, he had served parishes in London and St. Catharines, Ontario, as well as in Albertville, Minnesota.
He made a formal statement of acceptance to the LCC convention two days after the vote. Plans are being made for a formal installation service sometime in September. Since this work is full-time and will be done from the church's national headquarters in Winnipeg, the Board of Elders of Holy Cross Church will soon begin formulating plans for the calling of a replacement.
Further details on Pastor Bugbee's farewell to our Kitchener congregation and his installation will be shared as soon as they are available. Other election results from the convention are available at http://www.lutheranchurch.ca/news/06_06_08_election.html on the national church's website.
